Lecture: Light-Harvesting Processes

Starting with the quantum mechanical premise that electrons are indistinguishable, we will develop expressions for the interaction mechanisms  between molecular building blocks that lie at the heart of any energy transfer process - Coulomb and exchange interaction - and how these determine the efficiency of this process. The purpose of this lecture is to provide background information which should be helpful for understanding some of the theory talks at LHP 2013. Module LHP

Lecture: Introduction to First Principles Calculations: Orbitals as tools for understanding multichromophoric systems

Topics: The course will focus on the possibilities and limitations of using concepts such as HOMO and LUMO for explaining experiments. It will discuss the differences between wavefunction and orbital definitions, the fundamental and the optical gap, and how theoretical concepts can or cannot be used for the direct interpretation of experimental data.
